In this part, we’ll start working with the circle of fifths. First, I will tell you a bit about its meaning and origin. Afterward, I’ll explain how you can use the circle of fifths to find the right notes and chords for any given scale in major and minor.

Sharps and flats are discussed again in this chapter. Thanks to the circle, we can discover how many sharps and flats there are within any given key. We also use the circle to name these sharps and flats.

As is often the case, there is an exception to this rule. It is rather theoretical but I think it’s important to include. In chapter one, you were introduced to the idea behind the circle of fifths. We discovered, among other things, how to search for chords within a minor or major scale. In this part, we will do the same by using the circle. You may have skipped the first chapter because you already had this knowledge. If something is not quite clear to you, you can always go back to the first chapter or certain parts of the previous theory.
